Tahrir al-Sham tracks ISIS cells in Idlib

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Former al-Qaeda group is tracking ISIS sleeper cells in northern Idlib province after a series of assassinations targeted commanders of the former al-Qaeda branch in Syria.

Senior commander in Hayat Tahrir al-Sham told Zaman al-Wasl that an ISIS sleeper cell was captured in the western countryside of Idlib on Tuesday.

The formerly known as Nusra Front says more sleeper cells in Idlib are being led by the Russia from its coastal air base in Hmeimym.

More Daesh cells to be eliminated very soon after intense efforts by the domestic security, according to the official.

On Monday, the deputy commander of Jaish al-Ahrar, Khalil Ismael Ersan, was assassinated with his son in the town of Joubas in the southern countryside of Idlib when armed men opened fire on them while they were stepping out from local mosque after the Fajr prayer.

The state of security chaos has been continued in Idlib province as tens of Tahrir al-Sham members have been killed in the last few weeks.

Idlib has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and 2.3mn civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.
