(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian rebels launched surprise attack on regime checkpoints in coastal Turkman mountain, killing and wounding at least 20 troops, rebel commander told Zaman al-Wasl Wednesday.

Pro-regime news feeds said 9 forces, including 3 officers, were killed in the attack on al-Karama Mount in Latakia province.

The attack was in retaliation to the regime bombing on the mountainous region in the last few weeks.

Rebels say the provocations of regime army have increased in the coastal region after Turkish army set up its 12 observation points in areas overlooking on Bashar al-Assad’s stronghold in Latakia province.

Daesh and rebels have killed about 50 fighters loyal to Assad in four weeks.

More than 125,000 pro-regime forces have been killed in seven years of brutal war, according to local monitoring groups.
