(Zaman Al Wasl-AA)- At least 8 civilians were killed and 35 more wounded  by a twin bomb attack that rocked the northwestern city of Idlib on Thursday, according to the White Helmets rescuing agency.

Mustafa Haj Youssef, the White Helmets’ director in Idlib, told Anadolu Agency that a car-bomb had exploded near the city’s western entrance.

Shortly afterward, Haj Youssef said, a bomb-laden motorcycle exploded in the same area.

Idlib has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and 2.3mn civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the regime and its foreign military allies have recaptured from rebels.

Hayat Tahir al-Sham which controls the city of Idlib claimed it had been tracking sleeper cells after a series  assassinations targeted commanders of the former al-Qaeda branch in Syria.

The formerly known as Nusra Front says more sleeper cells in Idlib are being led by the Russia from its coastal air base in Hmeimym.

More Daesh cells to be eliminated very soon after intense efforts by the domestic security, according to the official.
