Iraqi authorities detain 121 wanted individuals: Police

Security forces have arrested 121 “wanted individuals” in Iraq’s southeastern Maysan province, local police officials said Thursday.

Within the past week, Iraqi security forces have carried out a number of separate counter-terrorism operations.

According to a police statement, these operations have led to the arrest of more than 120 people wanted for suspected criminal or terrorist activities.

In the latest operation in Maysan province, security forces reportedly seized 11 unlicensed rifles, 295 rounds of ammunition, and dozens of mortar shells.

Last year, officials in Baghdad declared that the Daesh terrorist group's presence in Iraq had been all but destroyed following a destructive three-year conflict.

Security forces, however, still carry out frequent operations -- especially in northern and western Iraq -- with a view to eradicating the lingering terrorist presence.
