3 people killed in Hasaka blast: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Three people killed and 6 more wounded in a motor pick blast in northeastern city of Hasaka, activists said Saturday.

According to the Firat news agency, an explosive device was planted inside a motorbike, parked near a school building, which now houses the headquarters of the Kurdish Self-Defense Forces.

Syria’s state-run SANA news agency said late on Saturday that a bomb-laden motorbike had exploded outside a school in Al-Hasaka, injuring an unknown number of civilians.

Hasaka, a city 620 km north of Damascus and the capital of the eponymous governorate, was liberated from Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) terrorists in 2016. However, occasional attacks of terrorists, who have taken refuge in areas on the border with Iraq, still occur in local settlements.

Also in eastern Syria, At least 11 SDF fighters killed by Daesh in the southern countryside of Hasaka , local activist said Saturday.

Mohamed al-Kheder, Hasaka-based activist said the Daesh surprise attack took place near the town of la-Shadadi late on Friday.

The SDF, which the Kurdish YPG militia spearheads, has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria last year.
the SDF made prisoner swap with regime army in eastern Deir Ezzor province, local activists said Friday.

Two regime troops were freed by the SDF in the town of al-Salhiya in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. In return, the regime forces have released 3 SDF militants who were arrested by pro-regime militias weeks ago.

The SDF, which the Kurdish YPG militia spearheads, has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria last year.

Last week, the YPG-led forces arrested about 100 people in Deir Ezzor, saying they have links with Daesh and the regime.

The Intelligence service of the Syrian Democratic Forces has carried out major arrest campaign in former Daesh areas, tracking people mostly from the tribal areas, activist Taj Allaw told Zaman al-Wasl Friday. 

Three days ago, the US-led forces took strategic ground from Daesh, including border crossing with Iraq.

Forces from the Iraqi Shiite militia, al-Hashad al-Sha'abi, have joined the SDF at the border crossing of Tel Sfouk on Saturday after clearing last pockets along the border.

Last week, Iraq conducted an air strike on three houses in the town of Hajin in eastern Deir Ezzor province where Daesh (ISIS) leaders were meeting, killing 45 members of the militant group.  (With TASS)
