(Zaman Al Wasl)- The U.S.-backed Syrian forces pressed new gains against Daesh in northeastern Hasaka province, taking two villages, local activists said Friday.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) backed the U.S.-led coalition airstrikes have seized the villages of Qabr Taha and al-Madina east of the Kurdish-held town of al-Shaddadi.
Clashes are still underway between the SDF and Daesh in the Twaimin district near the city of Hasaka, according to activist Mohamed al-Kheder.
In the next-door province of Deir Ezzor, the YPG-led fighters have also made gains over the week. Activists said the SDF had seized seven villages from Daesh along the border with Iraq backed the French and the U.S. airstrikes.
The SDF has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria last year.
Also in Deir Ezzor, the YPG-led forces have arrested about 100 people, saying they have links with Daesh and the regime.
The Intelligence service of the Syrian Democratic Forces has carried out major arrest campaign in former Daesh areas, tracking people mostly from the tribal areas, activist Taj Allaw told Zaman al-Wasl.
