Rebels say no ceasefire reached in coastal Latakia

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A new ceasefire deal would take place in the coastal region, Bashar al-Assad's heart town, brokered by Russia and Egypt, pro-regime news feeds said Monday.

The deal comes as Assad eyes on his hometown in Latakia province to eliminate last rebel strongholds in the mountainous Jabal al-Akrad and Jabal al-Turkman.

The Turkish-backed National Liberation Front (FNL), affiliated with the Free Syrian Army (FSA), denied the news, describing it as "biased", according to statement posted online.

Activists said the attacks of regime army have increased in the coastal region after Turkish army set up its 12 observation points in areas overlooking on the Alawite-dominated areas.

The UN estimates that more than 400,000 people have been killed and millions have fled their homes since the conflict began with anti-Assad protests.
