Somalia: Al-Shabaab attack kills 4 soldiers

An attack at the entrance of a military base in southern Somalia on Monday killed four soldiers.

A car bomb by the militant group Al-Shabaab was followed by an armed attack on a military base affiliated to government forces in the village of Baar Sanguni -- some 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the port city of Kismayo -- said security sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The attack reportedly left four soldiers dead, and six militants also dead, as well as a number of soldiers injured.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that they had killed 27 soldiers, confiscated ammunition, and set a number of military vehicles on fire.
