Daraa: war burdens affect Eid al-Adha

(Zaman Al Wasl)- In spite of the period of quietness that overwhemed the southern province of Daraa due the cessation of hostilities, a specter of fear has affected life activities, in general, and economic activities in particular.

Abu Qais Al-Hourani, lawyer, claims that since the province’s fall under the control of the forces of the regime, the situation became harder to predict and further blurred, considering the fact that the forces of the regime and its security agents, did not change their attitudes, towards the citizens under their rule. Despite the compromises and reconciliations guaranteed by the Russians, that have been held in most of “Daraa” and the surrounding areas.

The raids and arrests are happening every day, all over the province’s districts, without any preventive interventions from the part of the Russian guarantor, which resulted in the decline economic activities and preparations for Eid Al-Adha, by hindering the natural flow of the different daily activities, including the movement of sale and purchase and reconstruction projects.

Abu Mazin, an agricultural engineer and a livestock grower, says that the demand on al-Adha sheeps this year is a humble one, pointing out that there is a great desire among people to offer Al-Idhha sacrifices on this religious occasion, but they do not have the money and the financial liquidity to do so, saving the amount of money to spend on their daily needs as a priority.

On the prices of Al-Adha sheep, Abu Mazen pointed out that the sheep is sold at the average price, ranging from 60 thousand Syrian pounds to 100 thousand Syrian pounds, according to its weight, pointing out that the price of the kg for the sheep weighed 40 kg and below, is 1500 Syrian pounds, while the price of the kg for sheep, the weight of more than 45 kg, is about 1600 Syrian pounds kg Standing.

About the movement of the markets of the areas of settlements and reconciliations, which the regime did not enter into warriors and did not damage its infrastructure on a large scale, such as Tafas, Daraa, Jasim, Nawa, Ankhil and al-Hara, it was an acceptable one.

However, movement of the market is almost non-existent in the areas of rural Daraa Al Aqsa, in the Golan Heights and Tasil and tree and Maariyeh, and slightly better in the countryside of Daraa Al-Sharqi, Saida.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than 11 million made homeless in Syria's multi-sided civil war. The regime has made huge territorial gains since Russia joined the fighting on the side of Assad in 2015.
