The “Syrian Democratic Women Organization” has launched a campaign of solidarity with the mothers, wives daughters, and sisters of the Syrian detainees, in order to press the issuance of a legal act that allows to investigate the martyrs’ files who were executed under torture, so their bodies could be handed over to their families, in the presence of the international community, also to uncover the real reasons behind their deaths, and to punish those who were responsible for the atrocities.
The official statement of the campaign, stated that the international community has relinquished the humanitarian role, by not intervening to stop the massacre taking place in Syria. Considering the women’s struggle against injustice throughout the human history, and it’s contributions to the modern world’s justice, the statement have called on all women of the world, to unite and to pressure the international courts and the U.N. bodies to implement all international laws and regulations against the murderers of the Syrians.
The activist “Amal al-Ali”, a member of the “Syrian Democratic Women Organization” explained to "Zaman al-Wasl" that this campaign flourished out of the campaign "we want the bodies of our sons" which has started few days ago. The campaign's slogan is inspired by the Syrian woman who is the most affected by the regime’s war crimes, wither by being the detainee herself, or being the mother, the sister, or the wife of the detainee, she would be the one to carry the burden and the responsibilities of the family in the absence of father, brother, husband or the son .
“Amal” added "After the issuance of list of the detainees who were claimed dead as a result of diseases, and the refusal of the regime to hand over the bodies to their families, we saw the necessity to launch this campaign in coordination with a number of women's and human rights organizations. As illustrated, the campaign will include different types of protesting activities around the world, also it will include media meetings and seminars that will explain the issue of our detainees.
“Al-Ali” indicated that the campaign aims to appeal to the women of the world and the free militants, and to all human rights organizations, to stand in solidarity with the women of Syria as their strive to pressure the international community -which was unfair, as well indifferent to the Syrian cause- to figure out a mechanism for the legal accountability for the human rights violations committed by the Assad regime, such as the coercive arrests of the innocents, who are subjected to systematic brutal torture, which has killed many hundreds of thousands of detainees, whose corpses were not handed over to the families, in an attempt to hide the real causes of their deaths.
According to “Al-Ali”, the campaign called for the opening of the detainees’ files and the establishment of an independent international committee to expose the regime’s both of the known the secret detaining cellars, because they are cells in which the innocent lives of the detainees are taken brutally.
"The silence of the international community regarding the crimes of the regime that has lost its legitimacy, and the failure to take real and firm steps to bring justice to the Syrian people, has resulted in the huge number of victims of torture 13,197 martyrs, since March 2011, until the mid of this year," according to the Syrian Human Rights Network.
“Amal Al-Ali” the spokeswoman called for the establishment of an independent international committee to work on revealing the fate of those who were coercively taken away, also to put pressure on the regime to hand over the bodies of those who declared their deaths, and to reveal the true causes of death, which the regime hide away in order to evade its responsibilities towards this file.
Founded in 2016, the ”Syrian Democratic Women Organization” aims at raising women’s social awareness about their effective role in the construction the family, society as well the state. Furthermore, it aims at ending the sexist discrimination, the violence against women, therefore promoting gender equality between women and men by revising and integrating the gender concept and issues in the policies and laws, also by promoting the men’s necessary involvement and cooperation in this process.
