Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that there were strong signs that the killing of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was planned and that he had been killed in a "savage way."
Erdogan, who was speaking to members of his AK Party in parliament, called for the 18 Saudi suspects in the murder of the journalist to stand trial in Istanbul, saying that all those involved had to face punishment.
"My demand is that 18 people be tried in Istanbul," Erdogan said in Ankara, adding that "all those who played a role in the murder" had to face punishment.
He said the murder had been "planned" days in advance, according to a "road map" set up by a Saudi team that was sent to Istanbul for the purpose. Erdogan added that he still wanted answers on numerous issues, including "who gave orders" to the team and where the corpse is.
