Bashar al-Assad forces backed by Iran proxy Hezbollah militia kept up their shelling of the town of Yabroud and the surrounding Qalamoun region over the last two weeks.
Regime's fighter jets hit the main market of Yabroud Friday, leaving mass destruction, activists said in footage posted online, no causalities reported since most people have fled the city.
Activists reported a retreat for Hezbollah
militants Friday and pulling back its vehicles to the Lebanese border village
of al-Abboudiya.
Jihadist websites said at least 200 militant
of Hezbollah have been killed and 500 have been wounded, some of them in
critical condition.
Rebels also claimed killing a high rank
militant from Hezbollah in Yabroud and detaining 11 others on Wednesday.
Zaman Alwasl reporter said skirmishes
Assad army took place in the neighboring cities of Yabroud in Ruheiba and Nabk
in a bid to ease pressure on Yabroud.
Activists have disputed claims that
Yabroud is the “final” rebel-held town in Qalamoun, saying that rebels retain a
presence over half a dozen villages in the area. Several thousand people are
believed to have fled Yabroud as the onslaught picks up pace.
Over 10,000 Syrians mainly from Sahel and Yabrud in Syria have arrived to Arsal, Lebanon since feb 9, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) said.
