Epidemic diseases spread in Khan Sheikhoun as sewage blocked

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The local council in the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province has appealed to humanitarian and relief agencies to repair the sewage network, which caused a large spread of epidemic and infectious diseases.

In a statement issued Friday, the local council has documented 370 cases of leishmaniasis, 210 cases of gastroenteritis, and 1,200 cases of lice, due to the spread of insects and the use of unclean water due to the disruption of part of the sewage network in the town.

Dr. Abdelkader al-Najm, director of the Khan Sheikhoun Health Center, said a significant increase in the number of patients with skin and digestive diseases that are considered epidemiological in the town’s health centre.

Khan Sheikhoun is about 70 thousand people, in addition to 25 thousand displaced, which requires the demand of humanitarian organizations and civilian city and access to the needs of civilians.
