Swine flu kills 9 in Syria, 36 cases: Health Ministry

Syria’s Health Ministry says swine flu has killed 9 people in Hama province with 36 swine flu cases across the country.

Syria’s Health Ministry confirmed the country’s first case of swine flu in 2009 when an Australian woman of Syrian origin arrived in the country five days ago on a flight from Australia and tested positive for swine flu.

The World Health Organisation declared the swine flu pandemic over in August 2010, more than a year after the virus that emerged from Mexico sparked panic and killed thousands of people around the world before fizzling out. Swine flu has killed 163 people out of almost 36,000 cases reported in 76 countries, according to the WHO.
