10,000 patient with cancer in southern Sweida province: Health directorate

(Zaman Al Wasl)- People’s suffering, their pain and their diseases, which lead straight to death is partly due to the behavior of doctors in regime-held areas.

There is an attempt to throw the responsibility away from them, but the real cause for all these people’s suffering is in fact the negligence directed at the service and medical institutions. This negligence is often times intended as a kind of pressure or a punishment  for those who feel contempt and aversion toward the Assad Regime.

In the southern province of Sweida, the head Division of Hematology and Oncology talked about the increasing frightening numbers of tumors, whose highest rate is estimated at 171 per thousand.  The rate in Syria is not far off, it is estimated at  169 per thousand, according to statistics of the World Cancer Monitor for the current year.

According to the state-run Tishreen newspaper, Dr. Moanis Abu Mansour said that the mortality rate rose above the global rate of 60%: (The disease of breast cancer is one of the most common types of illnesses in women, it constitutes up to 26%;  for lung cancer the rate is (11%) and for colon cancer (11%) as well, followed by lymphoma (5% -6%). In men, however, tumor necrosis was estimated at  4.7% and prostate cancer was at 4%.

"There are about 10,000 cancer patients in the province, of whom about 8700 are registered with the Friends of Cancer Patients Association," said Adnan Muqled, head of the Friends of Cancer Association in Sweida. "This association provides medical services and assistance to patients and help in transferring them to Damascus hospitals for treatment.”

Dr . Muqled suggests that: “the cause behind the madly rapid spreading of Cancer, is the sudden change in the Syrians’ diet, the burning of their food, as well as the psychological stress under which they have been living for a while. Not to mention the pollution of the surface water with insecticides.”

Dr. Muqled also accuses a handmade Syrian straw of spreading the virus (c.b): “The widely used Straw in the province plays a role in the rapid transmission of viral hepatitis (c_b) in large quantities. It should be sterilized before use and its use should be individualized, the straw shouldn’t be shared among people."

Breast cancer, largely affects women from Sweida. It has incredibly increased and reached its scary limit. Nahida Nasr, head of public health programs at the Directorate of Health in Sweida said: “the number of medical tests conducted in health centers and elsewhere within the campaign reached 17938, as for the mammogram service, 1662 women have benefited from it.  439 abnormal cases were found.”
