27 Syrian refugees trapped in Gaza: activists
(Zaman Al Wasl)- Since more than 6 million Syrians have fled the war-torn country, 10 families have founded a refuge in Gaza where they share the suffering of two million Palestinians in the self-governing territory.

"We are a group of Syrian families who faced Regime’s daily bombardment. We had no choice in our destination. We found ourselves forced to enter the Palestinian Strip through the border tunnels," says Warif Qassem, the spokesman for the trapped Syrian families in Gaza.

"Most left Syria between 2012 and 2013. We traveled to Egypt but the political change that took place in Egypt in 2013, along with media campaign inciting against Syrians, All pushed us to Gaza," Qassem added.

Most of the trapped Syrians have chronic diseases such as diabetes, stress and asthma. Children are also suffering from mental illness, and all of these cases are documented by medical reports, according to Qassem.

The international organization and media outlets have abandoned the Syrian refugees in Gaza. The only International body that contacted the 27 Syrians was the Norwegian Refugee Council in the Gaza, which received medical papers and reports in hope they could find a solution to the refugees problem through resettlement in Europe.

Qassem has appealed via Zaman al-Wasl to every person or organization that can help the stranded families. ‘We appeal to you, in the name of humanity, to act for us and to consider our families who are in need of immediate and urgent intervention to get us out of the Gaza Strip as soon as possible. As long as possible, especially that the region is still under the impact of the war from time to time, there is nothing we have but to raise our voice to reach you and move you for us.’

Since the Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, more than 470,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
