Opposition Aid Unit behind Relief Office closing in Jordan: Flaihan

Syrian Relief Office in Jordan has been closed over lack of responsibility by National Coalition Aid Unit,  former director said to Zaman Alwasl.

Rima Flaihan, a prominent Syrian opposition figure, and a member of the SNC, said that a volunteer team formed in 2012 in Jordan, after the sever snow storm hit the country, when she freeze her membership with the Coalition as a protest for not doing its duties toward the refugees.

Flaihan carried on saying that Mouaz Al-khatib, the former SNC leader, managed to get a permission from the Jordanian government to establish a Relief office run by the coalition, then the voluntary team joined the office.

Fleihan mentioned that Relief office was funded with amount of money enough to cover 1500 Syrian family expenses of living, inside and outside Al-Zatari camp. However that fund stopped 3 months later despite it was the only office provided the Coalition with detailed receipts and its stuff received the lowest wages.

Flaihan carried on explaining that after ceasing the fund, the office received fund from the Assistance Coordination Unit “ACU”, which is run by the coalition, and it covered 1000 voucher, JD 50 each, and house renting for 200 Syrian families, beside a contract of $ 12 thousand for the office expenses and employees wages.

According to Flaihan, employees decided to reduce their wages to extend the range of support, and luckily they manage to cover 1500 families.

“Unfortunately, the Assistance coordination unite did not show serious commitment to the fund timetable, which caused disruption in the office’s duties and work. 6 months later, the unite stopped supporting the office completely, coinciding with defaming campaign against the workers in the Relief Office” Fleihan detailed.

All that forced Flaihan to resign from the office and requested to consider the office’s employees as staff of the Unite, which was agreed to. The ACU did not provide any support since.
