Zaman al-Wasl reporter might be released on Wednesday: source

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Zaman al-Wasl reporter Abdul Hafiz al-Houlani is expected to be released on Wednesday after three weeks of arbitrary arrest by the Lebanese State Intelligence, legal source said.

The Lebanese Public Prosecution in Baalbek city has accused al-Houlani, who covers Syrian refugee affairs in Arsal camps, of inciting sectarian strife following his latest report over 20 Syrian refugee women who were aborted due to polluted water in Arsal.

The Lebanese State Intelligence in Hermel district referred  al-Houlani for the Public Prosecution in Baalbek two weeks ago.

Al-Houlani, who lives in Arsal's refugee camps, has never been charged with a crime or offence.

He was arrested last may over his covering,  which seemed annoyying the local authorities.

Since the press freedom is fundamental to any democratic society, Zaman Al Wasl demands the Lebanese government to release al-Houlani and to not undermine freedom of speech under any pretext.

Zaman Al Wasl, also, calls on International rights groups to press on the Lebanese authorities to release our jailed journalist.
