Daesh fighters still control neighborhood in Hajin village

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Clashes continued Saturday between Daesh (ISIS) and US-led forces inside the village of Hajin as Kurdish officials say the key pocket is not completely controlled, local media activists reported.

At least 13 fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been killed by Daesh in mortar and blast attacks near Hajin, according to activist Adel al-Abeed.

Daesh is still controlling the neighborhood of al-Qala'a.

The heavy clashes entered the fourth week in the jihadist group's last major foothold in eastern Deir Ezzor province.

The SDF has been attempting to take Daesh’s territory on the banks of the Euphrates near Iraq for weeks, in an offensive backed by U.S.-led airstrikes.

Meanwhile, about 500 displaced have crossed into the Kurdish-held areas, fleeing from Hajin village.

The SDF has allowed the displaced and facilitated their exodus on Saturday.

Some of the displaced were arrested by the SDF over links with Daesh, local activists said.

The US-led airstrikes have killed dozens of people in Deir Ezzor, including 15 family members.

The strikes targeted hospital, schools and public facilities.

Daesh has resorted to guerrilla tactics since it abandoned its goal of holding territory and creating a self-declared caliphate straddling Iraq and Syria.

Since the Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
