US forces to shut al-Tanf base: rebel commander

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The command of US Army in Syria has informed Jaish Maghawir al-Thawra that it will shut its base in the al-Taf border crossing with Iraq, following President Donald Trump's shock decision to withdraw from Syria on Thursday.

Muhannad Tula'a, Commander of The Revolutionary Commando Army, has expressed his concerns to Zaman al-Wasl over the drawdown of US troops, saying his units and other US-backed groups will be in an inevitable confrontation with the Syrian regime forces and allied Iranian militias in al-Tanf region along the Iraqi border.

Rebels groups are working on unified military body to manage the horrific situation as the main concern for rebels is the fate of displaced people who need a humanitarian corridor to northern Syria, according to Tula'a

The Revolutionary Commando Army is a Syrian rebel group consisting of Army defectors and other moderate rebels.

Meanwhile, Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria said it might not be able to continue hold Daesh (ISIS) prisoners if the situation in the region gets out of control, top Syrian Kurdish official Ilham Ahmed said Friday.

Speaking alongside her at a Paris news conference, Riad Darar, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, said they hoped France would play a more active role in Syria after Trump decided to withdraw U.S. forces.
