Assad raises military salaries for second time in six months: decree

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syria's regime head Bashar al-Assad on Sunday issued a decree raising the salaries of military personnel and the pensions of retired military personnel, in a second rise in six months, the state-run news agency said.

The military pilots, who conducted thousands of raids on civilians, were awarded more allowances due to 'hardship work they did', according to the decree.

The new legislative decree stipulates for raising the salaries of military personnel by 8% of the total salary after adding compensation to the fixed sum, with the raise becoming part of it.

Last June, al-Assad issued legislative decree raised the salaries of military personnel by 30% of the total salary for military personnel.

The Assad regime has regained control on most of the Syrian territory since Russia intervened in the Syrian conflict in November 2015.

Assad's gift before the Christmas Eve came as Damascus say the war is over, analysts say.

More than 125,000 pro-regime forces have been killed in seven years of brutal war, according to local monitoring groups.

The Alawites-dominated areas are still the main manpower supply for Bashar al-Assad's regime.

Since the Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
