Two civilians killed in regime rocket attack in Hama: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Two civilians, including a child, were killed Monday when regime forces launched missile attack on rebel-held areas in Hama province, local activists said.

The shelling targeted the town of Morek in the northern countryside of Hama and the town of Hass in Idlib province where Russia and Turkey agreed on a buffer zone in September.

Two weeks ago, about 30 regime troops killed in a pre-dawn attack by Jaish al-Izza on the army checkpoints in the al-Masasneh town in the northern countryside of Hama, the group's spokesman Mustafa Ma’arati told Zaman al-Wasl.

The attack came in response to the continued artillery shelling on the 'liberated areas,' he added.

The deal to create the demilitarized zone, running along the contact line between rebels and regime territory, staved off an army offensive against Idlib.

Intermittent exchanges of fire have broken out in northwest Syria since the agreement between Russia, a key Bashar al-Assad's ally, and Turkey, which backs some rebel factions.

Since the revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
