FSA factions must unify against Tahrir al-Sham: Islamic Council

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The  Syrian Islamic Council called on all rebel factions in the Free Syrian Army to stand against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as its aggression expands to most rebel-held areas, according to statement issued Thursday.

The council said the former al-Qaeda barach has refused to stand before an independent Shariah court in northern Syria to end any dispute between it and other factions, but on contrary Tahrir al-Sham fighters have committed brutal crimes and numerous atrocities.

Clashes broke out between Tahrir al-Sham and the Turkey-backed Nour el-Din el-Zinki movement  on Tuesday in the northern province of Aleppo.

The Council also called on all revolutionary bodies and all supporters of the Free Revolution to demonstrate and protest against "the sinful act and brutal aggression of Tahrir al-Sham".

Clashes have broken out between two powerful insurgent groups in northern Syria, leaving at least 6 people dead.

The al-Qaeda-linked fighters captured the villages of Taqad, Saadiyah and Habata. It added that fighting is ongoing in the town of Daret Azzeh.

Tahrir al-Sham said Nour el-Din el-Zinki militants shot dead five people, including four of its fighters, last week.

The clashes are the first between the two former allies since they reached a deal to end similar fighting in October.

Tahrir al-Sham, which is the dominant force in northwestern Syria, and other hardline groups have refused to pull out their fighters from Idlib despite the de-militarized zone which was announced by rebel backer Ankara and Moscow in September to separate regime troops from rebel fighters in Idlib and adjacent areas.

Since the revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
