40 Russian forces killed in air crash accidents in Syria in 2018

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Heavy losses inflicted on the Russian air force in 2018, as more than 40 military personnel killed in air crash accidents in Syria.

Russia, which ranks as the second air force in the world after the U.S., has lost five warplanes in Syria in 2018, including two fighter jets, advanced helicopter, and a military cargo.

Russian warplanes carried out their first air strikes on the Syrian people in September 2015.

Russia claims it is targeting Islamic State and militant groups.

The reasons behind the air crash vary between air violations, technical failures, and ground fire, but the human loss on the board these five aircraft was very painful to Russia/ the death toll was up to 40 officers, including Maj. Gen.

A Sukh- 25 crashed on February 3, 2018, while it was carrying out raids on Ma'arat al-Nu'man town in northern Idlib province. Rebels killed its commander who jumped out the jet to land at the Turkish order.

.His body was handed over to Russia after Turkish mediation.

On June, 2018, an Antonov 26 crashed in Hameimym air base due to a technical malfunction.  All 39 passengers were killed, including the crew of the plane, and 27
officers of different ranks.

The crash video, which was aired by the Russian media, is questionable because it does not match the ground signs of the Hameimym airport. What might indicate that the surveillance tower cameras at the airport were not working or there were no cameras.

So the Russian Ministry of Defense was forced to broadcast a video of an air incident similar to the incident of Hmeimym, another technical flaw in the Russian air surveillance system.

On May 3, 2018, one of the most advanced fighter jets (Sukh-30) crashed in the Mediterranean Sea in front of Latakia beach as a result of falling into the water at high speed.

The two-pilot crew was killed.

On May 7, 2018, a highly advanced attack helicopter (Kamof-52), or the Alligator, was downed by Daesh (ISIS) rockets in the Syrian desert near ancient Palmyra city. The two-pilot crew was also killed.

On September 17, 2018, Fifteen Russian servicemen died after an Il-20 reconnaissance plane was struck down in a friendly fire incident involving Syrian S-200 anti aircraft defenses that had targeted Israeli jets, according to the Independent.

Russia, who believed that Israel who shot down the plane, has adopted this report to save face as a result of the lack of any radar and space media of any recording of the incident, as a result of the e-blind plan carried out by the Israeli war planes, where all Russian radars lost the ability to detect and record what happened.

Russia claimed that four Israeli "F-16" aircraft hid behind the Russian plane, which led to the injury of a Syrian missile fired on Israeli aircraft.

After the plane was hit, all 15 people on board were killed. Following the incident, a media crisis between Israel and Russia led to the threat of Russia to drop any air target that poses a threat to Russian bases in Syria, s-300) for air defense.

It is worth mentioning that, through the description and analysis of the aviation safety of air accidents and degrees, each of the five incidents is considered an air disaster at the level of the air force in Russia, because of the crash, the death of the crew as well as the disaster of killing a large number of more than 42 officers, including a brigade.

A large number of Ulan 10 drones were crashed.

And if we add these losses in 2018, to the losses of the Russians in the last three years of the presence of the Russian occupation in Syria of 33 aircraft and helicopters of various types, including 6 advanced fighters, in addition to 15 helicopters. Most tragic the crash of ‘Topolif 154’ were killed and 93 Russian military personnel were killed, including the commander of the Russian military orchestra, Marshal Valery Khalilov, and the rest of his team on December 26, 2016.
