Lebanon to deport 8 refugees to Syria held at Rafic Hariri airport

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Access Center for Human Rights called on local and international human rights organizations to act immediately to rescue 8 Syrians held by the Lebanese authorities at Rafik Hariri airport who will be deported on Sunday to Syria.

The center called on the Lebanese General Security to allow detained refugees to enter the Lebanese territory and to halt their decision, considering it an arbitrary measure that could endanger the detainees' lives and freedoms.

On Saturday, the Lebanese authorities detained eight Syrian refugees, including woman at the Rafic Hariri airport in Beirut, after returning from Sharjah airport, which was a transit station before reaching Khartoum, Sudan's capital.

The eight refugees left Lebanon on Friday afternoon, heading for Sudan via Sharjah Airport (as a transit station). But, the Sharjah airport said they did not obtain a visa to enter Sudan.

The surprise decision was issued at the same day by the Sudanese authorities requiring Syrians coming from Lebanon to obtain a visa to enter Sudan through the Sudanese Embassy in Lebanon.

An official at the airport said that the decision is restricted only to Syrians traveling from Lebanon.
