Darayya displaced seek a return to hometown but regime delays

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Thousands of Darayya’s residents are still waiting their home return, such a dream seems to be hard to come true as the Syrian regime prefers to keep the the original residents stranded throughout Syria.

The western town of Damascus is still unsafe amid lack of public services; that was the main pretext for the regime to ban people’s return.

Thousands of families are suffering the expensive house renting especially the ones that left the accommodation centre in Al Horjelah by force.

Before Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, about 350,000 people were living in Darayya.
In August 2012, the regime forces backed by allied militias defeated the rebel forces and took control of the town.  About 500 people were found executed by the regime in the bloody offensive.

Darayya is divided into two parts. The first neighborhoods of Shridi, Naqachat, Shamiyat, Corniche and Zaytouna which have remained under the control of the regime and have been subjected to widespread looting.  But it’s noteworthy that they are relatively secure and can accommodate up to 50,000 people.

The other part is the rebel’s neighborhoods, which have been systematically 90%, destroyed and they are currently under the control of the Air Force Intelligence, the 4th Armored Division, the Baathist Militia, and Iranian sectarian militias.

Engineer Ibrahim - a pseudonym – who comes from the city of Darayya and lives in the capital Damascus told Zaman al-Wasl that, at the beginning of 2017, Al-Assad detention centers began officially removing the rubble resulting from barbaric bombardments and the opening of roads between neighborhoods and circulate from time to time lists of recipients of the city entry card.

He added that to date, only 4,000 people allowed to enter Darayya.

Most of them are just enter to inspect their homes and leave immediately, but  a very small group began to maintain their homes, while the people who aim to inspect their homes pay some money for the militias to allow their enter.

The official Assad circles are throwing accusations and some of them imposing liability for renovation of the infrastructure delay.  The National Security Office has the authority to grant entry to the city and it’s the only responsible for this delay.

On the entry card, the engineer said that the journey of entitlement begins with a review of the Municipality of Darayya located in the district of al-Dahadil.

He confirmed that the most families recorded their information more than twice in order to get the entry card, but they realized that there are no real signs of return in the future.

It should be noted that in the end of 2018, Al-Assad regime announced to allocate 35 billion Syrian pounds for the rehabilitation of Darayya.
