Rebels boycott election of local councils over corruption claims, Eastern Ghouta


Lack of transparency, double standards, dictation, exclusion and using false names, forced Local Councils Administration to boycott election in East Ghouta, according to an activist, who said that revolution aimed to get rid of regime corruption, not to replace it with another in the name of revolution.

In a statement, Zaman Alwasl obtained, the Local Councils Administration confirmed boycotting election and rejecting all outcomes resulting from it.

The statement said that Administration Communicated with the organizing committee in regard to the province’s election, but the committee showed negative reaction and tried to do election on its way, which may increase dividing and discrepancy.

The statement confirmed that Lack of transparency, double standards, dictation, exclusion, ignoring the local councils' points of view, following corrupted methods of election and using false names, were behind the boycott.

The statement added that Local Councils’ coordination office in Amman has big influence on decision-making of the organizing committee which affected its neutrality.
