Many wonder about ways of support, the Assistance Coordination Unit “ACU”, run by the coalition, provide to Qalamoun in these crucial period of heavy fight with regime.
In a reply to such query, Dr. Osama Kadi, the Executive Director of the ACU said to Zaman Alwasl: “we managed to establish a bakery oven to produce and distribute bread for free to people who were badly affected, with production capacity of 2.5 tons making 2500 bags of bread. The bakery oven has been working for two months. It is supplied daily with 130 tons of flour, 130 boxes of yeast and 14000 liter of diesel, beside work expenses and wages for workers”
The Executive Director carried on explaining that AUC has established a well protected hospital equipped with four operation rooms, an ICU and Accident & Emergency department beside treatment departments. It operates at high professional level.
“Another fund equal to $50 thousand dedicated to found an Emergency system run by the central hospital to cope with the increasing numbers of wounded people, and that support took place after intense communication with our office in Beirut” Dr. Kadi Said.
The Executive Director carried on talking about the food support: “as far as food in concerned, we have distributed food baskets at $150 thousand cost, in cooperation with Ghiras Alnahda Association, and paying $18 thousand for Yabrud local council to supply fuel to public services like water pumps, switch boards, emergency and service vehicle. Besides all that, $25 thousand were paid to Ahel Alkhair Association in Yabrud to fund the relief kitchen that work on preparing and distributing meals”
Kadi ended his talk to Zaman Alwasl saying: “we work at the moment on supplying 140 thousand tons of flour as well as other essential ingredient for making bread, as a strategic store for two months.” He added that they work on securing strategic store of fuel around 25 thousand liter, and essential food seeds, beans and legumes at $ 70 thousand cost to be ready for anticipated siege.
Dr. Osama Kadi is an economic consultant and the president of Syrian Canadian Council SCC. He is the founder and president of Syrian Center for Political and Strategic Studies SCPSS, a non-profit organization, and he is a president of Concordia College of Canada for health, Business and technology. Kadi is the Executive Director of finance and economic affairs at Syrian national council and the economic consultant for the head of the interim government.
Yabrud is a small town to the north of Damascus; its population was around 80 thousand people before the Syrian Revolution. The town played very important role in supporting the Revolution from the beginning, as it has strategic latitude between Lebanon and Syria, which can be used to provide rebels with food and arms. It supported displaced people from uprising areas like Homs, Damascus and its countryside.
