(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Kurdish Red Crescent on Sunday reported first case of leprosy in al-Hol refugee camp in the northeastern province of Hasaka.
The medical team of the Kurdish Red Crescent said it had diagnosed a leprosy case for an Iraqi refugee woman who had recently arrived at the al-Hol camp.
Hundreds of displaced people arrived in the camp from the towns of Hajin and Soussa following the major assault by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against Islamic State enclave on Saturday, aiming to wipe out the last vestige of the jihadist group’s “caliphate” in the SDF’s area of operations.
The camp hosts about 30,000 refugees, including Iraqis and Syrians.
Also in al-Hol, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that at least 29 children and newborns had been killed in the camp in two months due to the severe cold.
