(Zaman Al Wasl)- Bombardment by militias loyal to Bashar al-Assad killed at least 9 civilians, mostly two children and women, in the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province, activists said Friday.
The heavy artillery fire has targeted the town of Khan Sheikhoun for the second time in the southern countryside, topping the death toll to 14.
Idlib has been hit by sporadic regime shelling for weeks despite the buffer zone deal between Russia and Turkey.
Turkey, which backs moderate Syrian rebels, and Russia, the regime's principal foreign ally, agreed in September to create a demilitarised zone in northwest Idlib region that would be evacuated of all heavy weapons and hardline fighters.
Since the Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
