Torture Memos: young woman prisoner lost her mind after constant rape

(Zaman Al Wasl)- In this torture memo, Sarah al-Abdullah, 30, tells her suffering after being held by by Daesh (ISIS) and the Syrian regime.

After seven months in Adra (Damascus) prison, I used to wish death all the time so that I could get rid of daily humiliation.

My name was enrolled in Eid al-Fitr’s reconciliation deal for a bribe reached 10 million Syrian pounds (About $21,000).

3 million SP has been paid to the court, 2 more millions to get out of Al-Khatib (security) Branch and 1 million to reach Adra prison and 4 million to get off the Air Force Intelligence, but the notorious branch refused to release me.

In the Air Intelligence branch, a new journey of torment began she continued. I stayed two months in the solitary confinement. I hear nothing but the water drops that was the most difficult thing one could ever imagine.

Two months later, they took me to a dormitory with 26 girls when we slept like the sword (means on the right or left side).

In the Air Intelligence branch, the situation was different.

Children were also detained in cells, bathroom use was so restricted, and the laundries were limited for certain times. All of that had caused scabies and crabs.

The bathroom was allowed every week for 7 minutes. We all have to take off our clothes, clean them and bathe in 7 minutes without shampoo or anything.

Sarah told us about a diabetic old woman, she said that even though they know that diabetes needs a bath always, but they deliberately ignore her and yell at her.

A family was detained in a cell.

It is the family of the first military pilot who defected and landed with his fighter jet in Jordan 2012. There was his mother, his wife and his two children, who grown up in the prison. One was 13-year-old (now 20), and the other 3-year-old (Now 10).

Sarah reveals that no one was allowed to communicate with them or see them.

She said that they are in this situation since 7 years. She knew this information by communicating with them from under the door when the jailers were almost asleep.

Also, there was an elderly woman entered the cellars since six years ago with her twin boys.

“The old woman, Jawaher al-Tounisi was diabetic and unable to walk, but the jailers did not allow her to enter the bathroom until she cried”.

In Adra Prison, Sarah said she had met a 19-year-old girl from Eastern Ghouta suburbs and she was very beautiful but out of her mind.

“I could not tell her story except through the girls who were with us in the same dormitory because the girl lost her mind because of the sexual assault by regime militants (so-called Shabiha),” she said.
According to Sarah, the girl was charged with financing terrorism.

“They tried to exploit the young girl but she refused. So they arrest her under the pretext of financing terrorism. Afterwards, she went Ibn Sina (Avicenna) hospital of the women's prison” she said.

Sarah concluded that she was released last September from the Air intelligence after paying 4 million S.P ($8000) Then she knew that her sister, who was living with her in Mazzeh, traveled with her little girl to Turkey after many threats.
