Russian Military Urges US to Enter Talks on Dismantling Rukban Camp

The joint Russia-Syria coordination center on refugee repatriation has said that the US troop command in Syria's At Tanf zone blocked access to refugees of the Rukban camp for monitoring and assessment of the situation, stressing that Washington had refused to take part in a coordination meeting on the Rukban camp.

The Russian centre for Syrian reconciliation on Saturday called on the US-led coalition to participate in talks on dismantling the Rukban camp slated for April 2.

Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari said on Wednesday that Damascus also wants the refugees to leave the Rukban camp and has prepared a convoy of vehicles ready to take them at any time, also stating that the United States must release the refugees.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said last week that Syrian authorities were ready to provide decent living conditions for camp residents if they were evacuated.

Russia and Syria have called earlier on the leaders of US troops staying in the At Tanf zone in Syria, to arrive on April 2 to the Jleb crossing point in the Homs province so as to take part in a meeting on dismantling the Rukban refugee camp.

The Rukban camp, which houses some 40,000 displaced people, is located in the south of Syria, near the Jordan border. The area that became a refugee camp for Syrian residents in 2014 is now controlled by the United States.
