Mariam al-Sharif, a unique icon of women, martyred

Syrian Revolution has lost one of its greatest mothers, who was unknown as she did not care about fame and appearing before cameras.

Mariam al-Sharif, or Om Ismail, from Kafr Nabodah in Hama, was a unique icon of women, who sacrificed her time, effort and life for revolution and she gave all she was able to give.

She was arrested by the Syrian regime security forces, and spent about a month in prison, where she met the informer who shockingly was from the area where she lived, and betrayed her..

Om Ismail, was killed in a fighting front, where she was helping rebels. She lost her two brother in fighting as well.

Om Ismail participated in aid and relief, as she used to give away aid she received when she felt that others would be in more need for it. Translation by Yusra Ahmed
