Syrian refugee girl comes first in preparatory exams in Hanau, Germany

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Syrian refugee girl won first place in the preparatory certificate exams in the German city of Hanau, surpassing 42 students from her school.

Amira Al-Hamad,  dedicated her success to the keeper of the Syrian Revolution’s spirit, Abdel Basset Sarout, who was martyred a few days ago in one of the battles of Hama, and to all the martyrs of the Syrian revolution.

Amira was displaced from the town of Buammar in eastern Deir Ezzor province in 2012, moving with her family between Mayadin and Turkey after the regime bombed the Al-Ommal neighborhood, where she lived.

Her father, Yasser Al-Hamad, told Zaman al-Wasl that his daughter had studied in Syrian schools in Turkey and had traveled by sea to Germany in the first half of 2015. 45 days after her arrival, her mother died while giving birth to her youngest brother, leaving her with four younger brothers to take care of wit her father, alongside studying.

Yasser Al-Hamad added that these circumstances led to his eldest daughter’s excellence, who succeed in passing a course in German language, placed first in the 2018 mathematics competition in the province of Hessen, and was nominated this year to participate in the German Mathematical Olympiad.

He continued that, on June 19, 2019, Amira got first place in the ninth grade certificate at her school (Hessen Homburg Chula) in Hanau, and was honored at the graduation ceremony held by the school in the presence of dozens of students, teachers, parents and school officials who praised her diligence and excellence.

The source confirmed that Amira’s teachers and the management of her school were proud of her, especially as she was able to outperform her classmates, who mainly were born and studied in Germany. The student is participating in the qualification system, hoping - as her father says - to represent Germany in international forums.

Her father has revealed that she will take part in this year's German Olympiad as a representative of Hessen, in which the top three from each province participate in a contest in Berlin, which has not been set yet. Amira aspires to study dentistry and achieve professional and scientific success.
