Daesh kills and wounds 11 regime troops in Syria desert

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 11 regime forces were killed and wounded on Sunday when ISIS (Daesh) attacked their military convoy in the Syrian desert, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

Activist Abdul Aziz al-Naser said the regime forces had engaged in heavy clashes with Daesh following the ambush near the town of al-Soukhna, killing three militants.

The Islamic State militants are still operating in the Syrian Badyia, the vast desert that links between the provinces of Deir Ezzor, Homs and Damascus.

The US-led coalition said last week that although a territorial defeat had been achieved against ISIS, “the job to ensure a lasting defeat of [ISIS] is still to be done.”

The conflict in Syria has killed more than 560,000 people and displaced 6.5 millions since the revolution erupted in 2011 with the brutal repression of protests against Bashar al-Assad.
