Assad appoints new head for Political Security Division

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Bashar al-Assad, in wild-scale appointments for top intelligence officials since first of July, has appointed Maj. Gen. Nasser al-Ali as the new head of the Political Security Directorate (Division), successor to Maj. Gen. Hussam Louka who heads the General Intelligence Directorate (State Security).

Assad has also appointed Maj. Gen. Ghassan Jawdat Ismail as head of the notorious Air Force Intelligence, successor to retired Maj. Gen. Jamil al-Hassan who is listed on the U.S. sanctions for war crimes he committed against the Syrian people.

The Syrian regime army on July 1st  has promoted 11 Brigadier Generals who gained fame in brutality and killing, each in his field.

Zaman al-Wasl has obtained the names of the promoted Major Generals, who mostly come from Bashar al-Assad's hometown in coastal region and belong to the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

Al-Assad, who believes that war is over along with his key allies Russia and Iran, has maintained to survive with a powerless army by depending on local militias and Iran-backed-and-funded foreign militants.

Syrian activists said all active officers in the regime army have involved in war crimes against the Syrian people since the conflict erupted eight years ago that acclaimed lives of half million and displaced half of the country’s population.

More than 135,000 pro-regime forces have been killed in seven years of brutal war, according to local monitoring groups.
