Moscow builds settlement for Russia's officers in Latakia: images

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russia in July has finished the construction of a military settlement in coastal Latakia province, such a move to be followed by other settlements since the Russian military presence had been agreed for half a century in the war-torn country.

A military source provided Zaman al--Wasl with fresh satellite images for three building, each one includes 20 flats. More buildings to be constructed very soon, the source added.

According to the source, the 60,000-sq.m project is located in al-Bassa village south of Latakia city, in area adjacent to the Russian-run military reconnaissance center (C-2).

The Russian intervention in Syria was officially announced on September 30, 2015, after an official request by the Assad regime for military aid against rebel groups.

The Russian heavy airstrikes helped the regime recapturing the historic city of Palmyra from ISIS (Daesh) in 2017, retaking the major city of Aleppo in December 2016, and breaking the three-year-long siege of Deir Ezzor.

Syria's war has killed more than 560,000 people and displaced millions since it started in 2011 with a brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests.  (Zaman Al Wasl)
