Rebels arrest female activist at border crossing with Turkey

Islamist rebels, who control Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey, have detained three female activists, who were freed from the Syrian regime’s prisons via Maloula Nuns' deal, in which 153 female prisoner were freed. Two of them were released, while Yasmin al-Binshi kept detained.

Rowaida Kana’an, a Syrian activist and one of the mentioned three detained activists detailed that she with Yasmin and other lady, who preferred not to mention her name, were detained by fighters of Ahrar al-Sham brigade at the gates of Bab a-Hawa border crossing, under the claim of investigation to know some information. Rowaida said that she and the other lady were released, while Yasmin stayed to investigate with her in regard to accusation of working with Syrian regime and conspiring to abduct someone. Surprisingly, that charge was the same one she faced at regime’s prisons.

The activist confirmed via her Facebook page that the investigation with her was too detailed and security at Bab al-Hawa asked even about too personal issues. She mentioned that communication took place with security at the border crossing requesting explanation for keeping her friend detained, despite she was promised to be release soon, but it took longer than expected and Yasmin is on hunger strike since the first day of detention.

Rowaida expressed her disappointment from the way her friend has been treated: “instead of glorifying her for being released from the regime’s prisons, she is now being treated with humiliating way by people who are supposed to be representatives of the Syrian revolution and its voice”

In a relevant content, a well informed source reported to Zaman Alwasl that reason behind detaining Yasmin is purely regional, as it was clear from her ID that she was from Lattakia, while other source confirmed that she was detained because of information against her was reported by people and activists in Lattakia, and claimers would come to the security centre in Bab al-Hawa to give their testimony.

Yasmin Sa’adeddin al-Binshi is a lawyer from Lattakia, she was arrested by the military security forces in Lattakia at 3-7-2013, under the charge of funding and facilitation terrorism, she was accused of participating in abducting, but she was announced innocent from that charge, and kept in prisons under terrorism charges, she was transferred to military security branch in Damascus and to Terrorism court afterward.

Yasmin spent more than 9 month in Regime’s prisons, mostly in Adra prison. She was release on 10-3-2014 alongside dozens of female prisoners via Nuns' deal, in which the regime accepted to release 153 female prisoners for releasing Maloula's Nuns through Qatari effort and mediation.
