Assad forces, Russia hit 31 rescuing facilities in northwest Syria: SNHR

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least  31 Civil Defense facilities were hit by the Syrian regime and allied Russian forces in the 2-month-old offensive on northwestern Syria,  according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR).

The London-based monitoring group said in a 26-page report released on Monday that the Syrian regime and allies used to inflict the most severe suffering among civilians to force them to capitulate and surrender through targeting those who offer them relief, aid and treatment services.

The death toll among the volunteer rescuers of the White Helmets agency reach a total of 229 since it was founded in 2013.

During the ongoing  assault on Idlib province and parts of Hama and Latakia since April 26, SNHR has documented the deaths of four Civil Defense workers by Russian forces, and the injury of at least 22 others, noting that the Syrian-Russian alliance forces attacked at least 31 Syrian Civil Defense vital facilities (centers and vehicles), during the same period, with 15 of these attacks carried out by  Bashar al-Assad's forces, and 16 more by Russian forces.

The report documented the deaths of at least 229 Civil Defense personnel at the hands of the main perpetrator parties to the conflict in Syria between March 2013 and July 12, 2019, of which the regime killed 159, Russian forces killed 38, ISIS killed three, Syrian Democratic Forces killed one, and other parties killed 28.

The report also documents at least 396 attacks on Civil Defense vital facilities in Syria at the hands of the main perpetrator parties to the conflict during the same period, of which 277 were at the hands of Syrian Regime forces, 102 at the hands of Russian forces, one at the hands of factions of the Armed Opposition, and 16 at the hands of other parties.

Russian and regime fighter jets have since late April ramped up deadly bombardment of the Idlib region of some 3 million people in northwest Syria, despite a deal to avert a massive regime assault.

More than 600 civilians have been killed in northwest Syria since the end of April, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and activists say.

Also, the spike in violence has caused 330,000 people to flee their homes since May 1, the UN has said.

Syria's war has killed more than 560,000 people and displaced millions since it started in 2011 with a brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests.  (Zaman Al Wasl)
