Syrian boxer wins regional championship in Turkey

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Nidhal al-Fakhouri, a Syrian refugee boxer in Turkey was able to win regional boxing championship on Saturday in the Turkish city of Mersin, defeating his Iranian counterpart Hadi Shujaie.

The atmosphere was in the stadium was enthusiastic, filled with Syrian and Turkish fans where the flags of Syrian revolution were waving and songs of the revolution’s vocalist Martyr Abdel Basset Al-Saroutwere echoing.

Al-Fakhouri told Zaman al-Wasl that this victory is a continuation of the challenge that the Iranians wanted. He had played against Iranian Mahdi Rahmani, who threatened to take him out of the ring dead, and who previously won the Iran Championship and reached the World Championship, which he did not win.

The regional boxing tournament is classified as a "professional" tournament and the most important of the local tournaments held in Turkey, Syria and even Asian Championships. It is one of the professional matches played by world champions and is very important in assessing the level of players.

Fakhouri revealed that Rahmani’s coaches prepared a player and, without sending his videos or any information about him, threatened to retaliate from the previous loss.
He also pointed out that the current participation was unfair to him as he was told that his opponent did not compete in the World Championship, but it turned out that he, in fact, won the World Championship twice in (X) and won the championship of Iran for 24 times.

Siddra Fakhouri, Nidal’s daughter, also won a deserved victory over her Iranian rival Milka Karimi in the same tournament, adding with her father two new achievements to Syrian diaspora.
