U.S.-Syrian citizen calls on Trump to stop Idlib carnage: footage

(Zaman Al Wasl)- From the bombing scene where bodies of 38 civilians have been scattered, a U.S.-Syrian activist called on the U.S. President Donald Trump to protect civilians of northwestern Syria as regime forces backed by Russia wage a deadliest aerial campaign that left about 700 civilians dead in four months.

Monday’s massacre was committed by Russian warplanes. It was a destructive and massive bombing on a vegetable market and surrounding areas in the town of Maaret al-Numan in Idlib province

Syrian activists have circulated footage on social media for the prominent doctor Rania Qayser in the midst of   rubble as rescuers were evacuating the victims of Maarat al-Numan

.

“This is the result of the US’s failure. We are being killed every day. We are bombed every day. Please Trump stop the killing. Please America, do something to stop this,” she said with a choked voice and tearful eyes.

The Syrian regime and its Russian ally have stepped up their deadly bombardment of the Idlib region and adjacent areas in Aleppo and Hama provinces since late April.

Qaysar told Zaman al-Wasl that she had witnessed the falling of the missiles near the Shine Institute, which she runs. She hurried quickly to the location and began to inspect the targeted area. She added that she saw the bodies of the victims were scattered on the ground, saw bodies without heads and a child inside one of the shops. She was shocked when she saw someone dying from his injury, his intestines rolling out of his body.

Qayser is originally from Al-Midan neighborhood in Damascus. She immigrated to the United States and obtained American citizenship. She worked at the prestigious University of Dallas, going back to Syria with the start of the revolution and settling in the town of Maarat al-Nu'man.

Meanwhile, the regime bombardment on northwestern Syria has killed at least seven civilians including children on Tuesday.

Three children were among seven civilians killed in Tuesday's air strikes and artillery fire in Aleppo and Idlib provinces, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The spike in regime attacks since late April has killed more than 700 civilians, including more than 170 children, according to the Observatory.

More than 330,000 people have fled violence in the area over the past three months, according to the United Nations.

Syria's war has killed more than 560,000 people and displaced millions since it started in 2011 with a brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests.
