(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian rebels thwarted a new incursion attempt by regime forces and allied militias into al-Kabana hilltop in coastal Latakia province, activists said Sunday.
The regime army backed by Russian airstrikes launched several attacks to take the strategic hill in the northern countryside this week, seeking to cut rebels' supply route with northwest Syria.
The regime's helicopters have dropped tens of barrel bombs on the al-Kabana hilltop as rebels showed fierce resistance on the ground.
Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
