US-led coalition tracks suspected ISIS fighters in eastern Syria

(Zaman Al Wasl)- U.S.-led coalition has carried out fresh airdrops in eastern Syria, tracking suspected ISIS militants, sources told Zaman al-Wasl Saturday.

The U.S. helicopters made an airdrop near the Ja’bar citadel north of Tabqa city. Two displaced people, originally from Hama province, were arrested late on Friday said they have links with Daesh.

The US-led forces conducted another airdrop on the village of al-Kassar at the eastern bank of Euphrates River, arresting three brothers.

Two more people were arrested by the US-led coalition on Thursday in al-Mashleb neighborhood in Raqqa city.

The U.S. forces have made dozen of airdrops on former ISIS-held areas since the fall of Raqqa in October 2017.

There are now about 2000 U.S. troops in Syria that initially came to train and support the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) in the anti-IS campaign.

The SDF has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria.

Since the Syrian revolution erupted in 2011, more than 560,000 people have been killed, and more than 6 million people have been displaced.
