Video: rebel-made arms way of pride and independency

 

 When the armed opposition in Syrian realized that there would not be a serious military support by the so-called “Friends of Syria” countries, they started to rely on themselves to produce arms locally, rebel commander said.

 Ahrar al-Sham media center, In YouTube video posted Tuesday highlighted the arms industry in rebel-held areas through a report from Mortar armory.

The factory responsible, who affiliated to the Islamic Front, said, “We are going to surprise the world of what arms we can produce, and we want to tell the west and other countries that we can rely on ourselves.” 

“We started producing our homemade arms as hand grenades, mines and roadside bombs, then we produced machine-gun, hand grenades, rockets, mortar shells in different sizes, and now we are able to even produce mortars,” the rebel-manager said.

“We also got benefits of remnants of Assad’s weapons where rebel experts had recycled it,” he added.

The monthly production of the armory totaled 10 thousands Mortar shells, and about 100 mortars, and it is almost sufficient to cover most battalions’ needs of arms in our battle against the regime, according to the report.

The rebel official assured that the effectiveness of rebel-made arms are as good as the Russian or western arms.

The label “Made in Syria” becomes a familiar ‘warmark’ within rebels and a reason for pride for others, the report concluded.

Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year , has killed more than 150,000 people, a third of them civilians, and caused millions to flee.
