3600 displaced to return to their hometown in al-Qusayr

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian security has approved the return of 3594 displaced people from al-Qusayr to their town after submitting their names to the relevant committees in Homs.

The lists, obtained by Zaman al-Wasl, showed that those mentioned were currently in the regime's control areas and were related to the staff or volunteers of regime forces.

According to sources, representatives of the ruling Ba'ath Party in al-Qusayr, in cooperation with a group of retired officers, have collected the names of those who wish to return to the city.

A source said that the security committee refused to approve the return of more than 700 people, due to their relation to opponents of the regime, or the death of their relatives during the battles of al-Qusayr before the regime and Hezbollah militia gained control over it in June 2013.

The source added that the Relief sub-committee in Homs and the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor have arranged for the return of the second and third wave of residents in the next Wednesday and Thursday after finalizing the return procedures.

About 5,000 people reside in Al-Qusayr currently, most of whom are Christian out of the 60,000 who used to live there before June 2013.

The return of this group of displaced people comes days after the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, Hassan Nasrallah, called on the people of al-Qusayr to return to their homes, on September 20.

Bashar al-Assad, who now controls around 60 percent of the country, has vowed to reclaim the rest, including Idlib.

Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
