US-led Coalition transfers Daesh prisoners from N.Syria to Iraq

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The US-led international coalition forces began to airlift foreign Daesh prisoners and their families from Hasaka province as the Turkish army backed by opposition forces press advances in northeastern Syria, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

Activist Muhannad al-Yousif said that the coalition aircrafts have been working for three days to transport detained IS fighters to Iraq. This is believed to be a prelude to handing them over to their countries. He pointed out that four transfers have been carried out so far, one per day with an average of seven families daily.

He added that among them are families who hold French nationality and that the transfers began after Turkish operation "Peace Spring" against the Democratic Union in Ras al-Ain and Tel Abyad.

The international coalition forces transferred 61 IS members last Saturday to northern Iraq from al-Shaddadi after they were released of the Hasaka Central Prison.

On Friday, the women of the families of Syrian prisoners started a protest around the perimeter of the prison, before the Democratic Union released dozens of them yesterday.

According to al-Yousif, Internet shops, visits and money transfers in the camp were suspended during transport operations.

Asayish, the Kurdish security forces, arrested 20 IDPs attempting to escape last night.

These operations coincided with an attack by Islamic State elements on PYD militants in the village of Dahou, southeast of the oil city of al-Shaddadi.
