(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 8 civilians were killed and a dozen wounded Thursday when the militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham stormed the town of Kafr Takharim in northern Idlib province despite a 'surrender’ deal reached the day before with rival jihadist group, according to Zaman al-Wasl reporter.
Fighters of the former al-Qaeda group advanced into the Kafr Takharim on Wednesday, vowing to uproot 'the corrupt group' of ‘Shura Council’.
A handwritten agreement stated that the HTS will control all military and security headquarters inside the town and to get the wanted people.
Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate is controlling Idlib region, which is home to some three million people, including many displaced by the eight-year war.
Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
