(Zaman Alwasl Leaks) – By George Hadad- Translation Dani Murad
Assad’s regime has long pretended to be a pivotal part of the axis of resistance against Israel; yet two recent official documents obtained by Zaman Alwasl revealed the existence of the so-called “Board of Directors of Jewish Absentees’ properties’” and “The Supreme Committee of Jews’ Affairs” in Damascus regime headed by Deputy Minister of Interior .
The two documents which go back to October and November of last year, and directed to regime's minister of interior have shown clearly that there are two apartments in Damascus downtown, one in Al Kassaa and another in al-Shaghour, and that they were vacated by a decision issued by the Deputy Minister of Interior for Civil Affairs, the Chairman of Supreme Committee of Jews, Maj. Gen. Adel al-Dairi.
The document that dated in November 2013, revealed that the two apartments were duly handed over to “Jews Board of Directors”, and no longer enlisted within the ministry’s workers’ housing but belong to the properties of the Jews’ Board.
The Jew and their properties were taboo subjects whether in Hafez or Bashar’s Regime, and Syrian media was prohibited from dealing with this issue, to the extent that no subject was found to talk about this point or refer to it.
Jews lived in Syria since the era of Prophet David, a thousand years before Christ “BC”, and have temples in it that considered among the oldest in the world, including Jobar synagogue near Damascus.
Jews in Syria ended up gathering in certain communities and streets in the central cities, especially Aleppo, Qamishli , and Damascus .
In Damascus, Jews lived in al-Amin neighborhood which is known for public as “Jewish Quarter ", or “Harat al-Yahud” in Arabic, which is today one of the largest neighborhoods inhabited by Shiite majority, after most Jews left Syria (their population reached in 1943 about 30 thousand people) and only few stayed in Syria.
Balfour Declaration in 2 November 1917 was the main reason for the big wave of Jew immigrations toward Palestine, and as a result more than 7 million Palestinians have been made refugees and thousands are dead. The Balfour Declaration instantly changed the fate of Palestine and began the Zionists’ process of ethnically cleansing Palestinians from their homeland, which continues until today.
