Syrian rebels kill 7 Hezbollah militants in Latakia

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 14 fighters loyal to Bashar al-Assad, including 7 Hezbollah militants, were killed by Turkish-backed rebels in coastal latakia province, field sources told Zaman al-Wasl Wednesday.

The National Liberation Front has thwarted the fourth incursion attempt into Kabana hilltops by regime forces and allied Shiiite militias.

The strategic mountainous area has been under major attack by Assad forces over the past few weeks. So far, rebels have killed at least 40 troops.

On Monday, the Turkish-backed rebels hit regime army barracks in Mount Turkmen with anti-tank Kornet missile, leaving three troops dead.

Rebels and jihadists have killed more than 130,000 pro-regime forces since the armed conflict erupted eight years ago with the brutal repression of protests against Bashar al-Assad, according to local monitoring groups.

Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
