Regime army enters al- Aaliah grain silos in Hasaka: state agency

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime army on Sunday has deployed troops in the al-Aaliah grain silos in northeastern Hasaka province, state-run news agency reported.

SANA said army units boosted deployment on Hasaka- Aleppo international way, entering al- Aaliah grain silos which is a strategic point as it overlooks large parts of the highway, and reinforcing their positions in the surrounding villages, including al-Suwaisa and Anjudiya villages, with locals welcoming the arrival of the army.

Bashar al-Assad’s forces have retaken control of swathes of territory from Kurdish militias without fight, taking advantage of the Turkish military operation.

Turkey on Oct. 9 launched Operation Peace Spring, to eliminate the YPG militia from northern Syria east of the Euphrates River in order to secure Turkey’s borders, aid in the safe return of Syrian refugees, and ensure Syria’s territorial integrity.

Ankara wants YPG militia to withdraw from the region so that a safe zone can be created to pave the way for the safe return of some two million refugees.

Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
